An Overview of Voting in Cryptoeconomic Systems

We will consider the variety of different ways in which participants in blockchain systems ''vote''. Sometimes this is explicit, notably in decisions of DAOs or as part of the Schelling point based systems used in oracles, such as that of Kleros. Other times one implicitly votes by choosing which chain to follow in a fork. Drawing on ideas from social choice theory, we will compare and contrast the requirements one has on voting systems used in these different settings. We will discuss how systems such as quadratic voting, commitment voting, and voting systems adapted to Schelling point based schemas reflect these different requirements.
