Why account abstraction on L2 is critical for mass adoption
As Vitalik says, ""Account abstraction has for a long time been a dream of the Ethereum developer community"". It makes each wallet a smart wallet, with the potential to significantly improve usability and security. In doing so it can drive crypto adoption. But while it’s been difficult to implement on mainnet, Layer 2 presents a new start. Account abstraction is the default on StarkNet and an option on zkSync. This talk explains why it matters so much, covering examples such as multicall, social recovery, and fraud monitoring. The stakes are high. EOA wallets are too insecure and difficult for most people. If they don’t have a better self-custody option they’ll forever rely on custodians. Account abstraction can change this.
