Description

DeFi Meets TradFi: Governance, Compliance, and Privacy in Converging Markets In this workshop, we will explore the evolving regulatory and market convergence between decentralised finance (DeFi) and traditional finance (TradFi). Workshop participants will be invited to look at the current market developments, further regulatory clarity regarding stablecoins, and a cross-jurisdictional view of stablecoin and tokenisation regulations. We will take a look at the open questions that might be part of the MiCA review, including further clarification on Recital 22, which excludes fully decentralised protocols from the regulation. We will examine access points and the concept of control in the context of front-end and non-custodial wallet providers and link these questions to a plethora of regulatory frameworks, including AML regulations and the forthcoming Savings and Investments Union regulatory frameworks. We will examine how on-chain financial infrastructure is increasingly intersecting with regulated financial markets, the technical and legal pathways enabling this convergence, and the key challenges it raises around compliance, accountability, settlement finality, resilience, and cybersecurity. The session is designed to move beyond abstractions and assess where integration is already happening, where friction remains, and how policy choices will shape the next phase of financial market infrastructure. Business models are enabled or limited by the regulatory frameworks put in place right now. The workshop is meant for individuals and organizations involved in tokenisation, stablecoins, RWA and DeFi protocols, legal professionals, researchers, institutions and anyone else interested in these topics. The agenda will be produced in collaboration between EUCI, Christina Frankopan (Lazard) and AAdriana Ennab (Stand with Cypto).
