Ethereumverse... loading. Or: Why we NEED horizontal scaling

The prevalent paradigm of Ethereum scaling has been the inverted pyramid: Everything ultimately settles on L1. I will do some back-of-the-envelope calculations to show that this doesn't provide enough throughput for Ethereum.
