Sustainability as a Crypto Superpower

If we are going to rapidly decarbonize the world, we need to rebuild tools for environmental accounting based on the verifiability, interoperability and responsiveness native to Crypto. Existing standards for reporting on emissions are slow and difficult to verify: companies publish reports annually using proprietary data to make claims that are already months old by the time they become available. Filecoin Green is building the infrastructure necessary to make these data available in minutes instead of months, and turn environmental accounting into a Crypto superpower. In this talk I’ll walk through the tools we are building to make electricity use in the Filecoin ecosystem transparent and verifiable. I’ll discuss massive renewable energy purchases by the network, demonstrating that Crypto can be a force for catalyzing the energy transition, and explore how these tools can be leveraged to assess and reduce the environmental footprint of projects within the Ethereum ecosystem.
